At the invitation of the University of Milano-Bicocca, the Institute of World Economics under the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Antall Jozsef Knowledge Center and CEECAS, Li You Mei, First Vice President of Shanghai Academy, went to Italy and Hungary and visited the four prestigious think tanks and universities during September 24-30. Deputy Director of the Research Division, Chen Yuegang, accompanied her on the visit.
On September 25, the delegation of Shanghai Academy visited the University of Milano-Bicocca. During the visit, Professor Li Youmei had talks with Doctor Cinzia Corti, Director of International Promotion at the University of Milano-Bicocca, Professor Tomaso Pompili, Executive President of Sociology and Social Research Institute, and his colleague Professor Matteo Colleoni, as well as Professor Sonia Stefanizzi, Director of UniData-Bicocca Data Archive. Both sides conducted friendly exchanges on issues such as research cooperation, researcher visits and exchanges, collaborative training of high-end talents and joint launch of international conferences, and agreed to seek breakthroughs for cooperation and expand the efforts and scope of cooperation, to achieve in-depth cooperation between both sides. After the talks, the Shanghai Academy delegation visited the library of the Sociology and Social Research Institute and UniData-Bicocca Data Archive. As a comprehensive university, the University of Milano-Bicocca has 30,000 students and 1,500 research and teaching staff, and includes seven colleges, one medical school, and 21 research institutes. It boasts outstanding research achievements, with the Sociology and Social Research Institute ranking the first in Italy (2009) and natural science and psychology coming third in Italy.
On September 26, the delegation of Shanghai Academy reached Budapest, Hungary to visit CEECAS, the Institute of World Economics under the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and Antall Jozsef Knowledge Center.
On September 27, the delegation of Shanghai Academy visited CEECAS. Professor Li Youmei had talks with Mr. Sandor Zoltan Kusai, economist and former Hungarian Ambassador to China, Gyorgy Lengyel, professor with the Department of Sociology at Budapest Corvinus University, and Doctor Tamas Matura, Chairman of CEECAS, on issues including the Belt and Road initiative, the relationship between China and Central and Eastern Europe, and the Sino-EU relationship. Both sides agreed that China and the EU, and China and the think thanks in Central and Eastern Europe, need to beef up cooperation and exchanges, identify key aspects for cooperation, and find proper ways for cooperation. Professor Li Youmei invited Doctor Tamas Matura to visit Shanghai Academy during his stay in China in November for participation in an international event. CEECAS is a think tank alliance in Central and Eastern Europe, with the offices located at Corvinus University of Budapest.
On the morning of September 28, the delegation of Shanghai Academy visited the Institute of World Economics under the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Professor Li Youmei had talks with Doctor Miklos Szanyi, Director of the Institute of World Economics, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Doctor Agnes Szunomar, leader of the research team, and researchers including Adam Kerenyi, on issues including the development of urban economy, the international economy, and China’s Belt and Road initiative, as well as free trade zone strategies. Through the visit, both sides increased understanding about each other and reached a preliminary intent on cooperation. To expand and deepen results of exchanges, Doctor Agnes Szunomar is expected to pay a visit to Shanghai Academy at the end of this year. The Institute of World Economics under the Hungarian Academy of Sciences was founded in 1954 and dedicated to studying the economic life in Hungary, the socialist camp and the capitalist world, as well as the economic issues arising from socialist construction. It has five major research teams, including the economic team, industrial team, agricultural team, fiscal team and international team.
On the afternoon of September 28, Professor Li Youmei attended a forum held at Budapest Business School, themed "East Asia’s Future: Opportunities and Prospects of New Initiatives of Cooperation”. At the forum, Li Youmei discussed with the attending experts on China’s Belt and Road strategy, the relationship between China and EU, and Sino-Eastern Europe cooperation.
On September 29, the Shanghai Academy delegation visited Antall Joszef Knowledge Center. Professor Li Youmei had talks with Mr. Antall Peter, Director of Antall Joszef Knowledge Center, Mr. Zsolt Csepregi, Director of Asia-Africa Relationship, Ms. Bernadett Hari, Manager of International Relations, and Ms. Viktoria Anna Papp on issues including carrying out modern China research, holding the 2018 Maritime Silk Road International Conference, jointly launching In Focus magazine, and advancing academic exchanges and student exchanges programs. Established in 2010, Antall Joszef Knowledge Center is a young think tank aimed to provide academic support for students, researchers and young scholars, and inherit the political philosophies of Mr. Antall Jozsef (1932-1993). The center has also published many high-quality academic findings in political and social science.
