On the morning of August 21, 2015, the 2015 Q3 Seminar on Construction and Research of Discourse System of National Coordination Office for the Construction of Discourse System in Philosophy and Social Sciences was held at Siyuan Hall, New Lehu Building, Baoshan Campus, Shanghai University. As an important work content of the system of Coordinating Conference of Development of Discourse System of Philosophy and Social Sciences in China under the guidance of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the seminar was sponsored by Bureau of Scientific Research Management of CASS and organized by Shanghai Academy.
More than 40 people attended the seminar, including Ma Yuan, Director of Bureau of Scientific Research Management, CASS, Xu Qingsen, Deputy Director of Planning Division of Social Sciences Department, Ministry of Education, Yan Shuang, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, Li Youmei, Vice-Chairperson of the University Council, First Vice President of Shanghai University, and Vice President of Shanghai Academy, Wen Xueguo, Executive Vice President of Shanghai Academy, Xia Xiaohe, Vice-Chairperson of the University Council, and related personnel from the Party Literature Research Office of the CPC Central Committee, Party History Research Office of the CPC Central Committee, International Communication Department of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, Party School of the Central Committee of CPC, Central Compilation & Translation Bureau, China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, the lecturing team of Strategy of Great Power at Shanghai University, related departments and offices of Bureau of Scientific Research Management of CASS and Shanghai Academy.
The seminar was divided into two sessions. The first session was presided over by Zhang Guochun, Deputy Director of Bureau of Scientific Research Management, CASS, and Director of Office of Coordinating Conference of Development of Discourse System of Philosophy and Social Sciences of China. At the seminar, eight member units, including the International Communication Department of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, Party School of the Central Committee of the CPC, Planning Division of Social Sciences Department, Ministry of Education, Party Literature Research Office of the CPC Central Committee, Party History Research Office of the CPC Central Committee, Central Compilation & Translation Bureau, and China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, introduced their recent development, research findings and next quarter’s research plans of the discourse system work. Xu Qingsen, Deputy Director of Planning Division of Social Sciences Department, Ministry of Education, emphasized on the development of preparing the Opinions on Promoting the Innovation of Discourse System of Philosophy and Social Sciences, and the preparation and work plan for the “Theoretical Seminar on Development of Discourse System of Philosophy and Social Sciences in China”.
As the representatives of the host, Yan Shuang, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, Xia Xiaohe, Vice-Chairperson of the University Council, and Wen Xueguo, Executive Vice President of Shanghai Academy, made speeches and addressed the seminar. Yan Shuang pointed out that China’s discourse system construction was not a task of strategy and the day, but a fundamental and long-term task on the publicity front. Shanghai expected to participate in the research of China’s discourse system development and hoped Shanghai Academy, as a window of the cooperation between Shanghai and research institutions, could make contributions to the construction of China’s discourse system. Ma Yuan fully affirmed the work results of all member units in discourse system construction in the first half of 2015, summarized the status quo and existing problems of current discourse system research, and expected all member units to continue to display their respective advantages and work together to jointly promote the construction of the discourse system.
The second half was themed as “Seminar on Discourse System, Undergraduate Education and the Strategy of Great Power Project”. Professor Gu Xiaoying and other lecturing team members of the Strategy of Great Power introduced the title work from two aspects, including their understanding on lectures and thoughts on the discourse system. Their speeches were broadly accepted and highly praised by experts and leaders at the seminar. The Strategy of Great Power was hailed as “the Oriental Pearl of Shanghai in the field of Ideology and Politics Lessons for Undergraduates” and “Set an Example for Ideology and Politics Lessons of China’s Universities and Colleges”.
The seminar served as another important meeting sponsored by Shanghai Academy since its establishment. Shanghai Academy successfully took the opportunity to build a publicity platform to promote the Strategy of Great Power to ministries and commissions directly under the State Council. The seminar also served as a successful attempt for Shanghai Academy to achieve the positioning of “four high-end bases” and positively promote the broad cooperation among Shanghai University, Shanghai Academy and related research institutes.
