On Dec. 20, 2017, China Think Tank Governance & Thought Theory Communication Summit Forum was held ceremoniously in Beijing. A list of supplementary sources of the Chinese Think Tank Index (CTTI) was released and a certificate was presented at the forum. Shanghai Academy was successfully included as a source of the CTTI.

The Chinese Think Tank Index (CTTI) was developed by joint efforts of the Nanjing University Center for Chinese Think Tank Studies & Evaluation and the Think Tank Research and Release Center of Guangming Daily. With think-tank search as the core function, it has four data warehouses including “Think Tank Basic Information Data Warehouse”, “Think Tank Product Data Warehouse”, “Think Tank Expert Data Warehouse”, and “Think Tank Influence Data Warehouse”. It aims to provide true and quality think-tank institutional information and expert information for Party and government organs, academia, media, and the public, and has become a think-tank search engine with high data security and convenient information inquiry and use. It can comprehensively, accurately and scientifically evaluate the development status and trend of China’s new think tanks. As a third party, the CTTI conducts process and result-oriented evaluations of the capabilities and benefits of resource application of think tanks, and has the dual function of think-tank big data management and think-tank evaluation. At present, the CTTI has included 604 think tanks and 9,301 think-tank experts. In 2017, a total of 191 think tanks applied for joining the CTTI. After review by industry experts and online data filing and review, 117 think tanks were successfully added, 2 of which were from the CASS family.

This forum was co-sponsored by Guangming Daily and Nanjing University, and organized by Guangming Think tank, the Nanjing University Center for Chinese Think Tank Studies & Evaluation, and Gmw.cn. The forum aims to promote better learning, implement and communicate the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, explore an innovation path to study and communicate the thoughts and theories in the new media age, promote the healthy development of a new type of think tank with Chinese characteristics, provide a high-level academic exchange platform for the national ideological and theoretical circles and think tanks, and build a platform for promulgation and communication of theoretical research results and think-tank countermeasures and suggestions, and construct an exchange and liaison network for new type think tanks with Chinese characteristics. The opening ceremony was presided over by Li Chunlin, Deputy Editor-in-chief of Guangming Daily. Zhang Zheng, Editor-in-chief of Guangming Daily, Chen Jun, President of Nanjing University, and leaders from the Ministry of Education, National Planning Office of Philosophy, and the Social Science and Development Research Center of the State Council successively addressed the opening ceremony, and multiple scholars delivered great speeches. In addition, research results such as the CTTI 2017 performance report, the latest version of the list of CTTI source think tanks, CTTI phase II construction progress, and the think tank network influence evaluation report were released to the forum. Subsequently, special discussions were organized at the eight sub-forums. More than 700 experts and scholars from think-tank administrative authorities of the central ministries and commissions, provinces and municipalities, CTTI source think tanks, the think tank research community, and ideological and theoretical circles attended the meeting.

Wen Xueguo, Executive Vice President of Shanghai Academy was present at the meeting and presided over the CASS family sub-forums in the afternoon. Li Chunguang, Deputy Director of the Cooperation Division, accepted the certificate issued by the forum on behalf of Shanghai academy. XiongHou, Director of the Research Division and Zhao Xueyan from the Cooperation Division attended the meeting.
