    Li Youmei Leads a Delegation to Visit Universities and Think Tanks in Macau and Hong Kong

    At the invitation of the University of Macau (UM) and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), accompanied by Director Chen Yao from the Administration Division and Director Zhu Cheng from the Cooperation Division of Shanghai Academy, Professor Li Youmei, First Vice President of Shanghai Academy, led a delegation to make a friendly visit to the MU and the HKUST on November 7-10, 2017.

    On November 8, Li Youmei and her party paid a visit to UM where they were hosted by Professor Li De, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, UM, Professor Wang Hongyu, Director of the Faculty of Sociology, UM, and Cai Tianji, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Sociology, UM. Both parties held a meeting to discuss and exchange views on such research areas as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and the “Belt and Road Initiative” as well as the issues concerning postgraduate education and scientific research management. Through exchanges, both parties unanimously expressed belief that, the Faculty of Social Sciences, UM, and Shanghai Academy had their respective advantages and well complemented each other in the field of academic and policy research, so there would be great room for cooperation. Both parties reached a series of cooperation intentions to establish substantive cooperation with each other on scientific researches, visitor exchanges, academic lectures, and so on. Moreover, the delegation also visited the UM Library and Yu Tung College, where they exchanged views with mainland students studying at the university and researched the UM college system.

    The visiting delegation also paid a visit to the Center for Chinese History and Culture of the Faculty of Social Science——the journal editorial office of South China Academic Research, where a meeting was held to discuss and exchange views with Chief Editor, Tian Weiping. At the meeting, Li Youmei discussed with Tian Weiping about how to make a high-level academic journal, and exchanged views on learning and understanding the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the CPC. Li Youmei invited Tian Weiping to visit Shanghai Academy at an appropriate time, to offer advice and suggestions to Shanghai Academy on how to make high-level think tank publications and how to find high-quality topics for its Key Reference.

    From November 9-10, the visiting delegation met with Wu Xun, Director of the Institute for Public Policy, HKUST, Ms. Huang Xiaohua, Manager of Training Program Division, HKUST, Dr. Du Dijia and Dr. Miao Jia, the representatives of researchers at the HKUST, and Professor Wu Xiaogang and Dr. Chen Wei from Division of Social Sciences, HKUST, to discuss and exchange views separately. The Institute for Public Policy, HKUST is a newly-emerging think tank. Wu Xun detailed the development history, main goal and development focus of the Institute for Public Policy, and in particular the part-time researcher system and the Trinitarian, mutually-supportive and positive interactions among academy research, student cultivation and senior training program. Li Youwei briefed on Shanghai Academy and its key research areas. Both parties reached a consensus on issues concerning future joint research in the field of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, the comparative research on urban and social development of Hong Kong and Shanghai, the research on science and technology innovation, and research on the “Belt and Road Initiative”, and also reached a preliminary consensus on their cooperation on senior training programs in the field of leadership and public policy in future.

    Through the visit, Shanghai Academy further specified the areas of cooperation with the Institute for Public Policy, HKUST, and reached a preliminary cooperation intention with related disciplines of the UM, indicating an important measure for Shanghai Academy to actively exchange views and cooperate with the think tanks and research institutions in Hong Kong and Macau.
