On September 14, Shanghai Academy held the 2017 Postgraduate Opening Ceremony at Room 306, Beida Building of Shanghai University. Class 2016 and 2017 postgraduate and doctoral candidates of Shanghai Academy sat in the opening ceremony. Li Youmei, First Vice President of Shanghai Academy, and Wen Xueguo, Executive Vice President of Shanghai Academy, were present at the event.
The students first watched an official publicity film of Shanghai Academy, so as to have a preliminary understanding of the establishment, development, objectives and relevant academic activities, and achievements of Shanghai Academy. Wen Xueguo addressed the event on behalf of Shanghai Academy. He pointed out that postgraduate study means in-depth and thorough study, on the basis of a solid study foundation, rather than a simple continuation of graduate study, and encouraged the students to define their study objects, know well about their study fields, explore efficient study methods, formulate concrete study plans, and conduct learning and studies with questions. According to Wen, the students shall make full use of the abundant teaching resources of Shanghai Academy, seek advice from and frequently interact with their tutors, in order to integrate into the scientific study team. Efforts shall be made to make explorations and innovations, and to analyze and solve problems using the existing knowledge and experience, in a bid to grow into creative, dauntless and audacious impellers and leaders of the innovative age. In addition, the students are expected to actively participate in various academic activities held by Shanghai Academy, and a series of studies of think tank platforms, and do a good job in their studies.
Yin Feng, Vice President of the School of Economics of Shanghai University, told four truths in study and life with four stories, in the hope that the students could actively participate in various activities, and grow into high-level postgraduates with excellent expertise and an open vision. Meanwhile, she hopes the students will be brave in exploration, diligent in thinking and have the boldness to doubt the accepted knowledge systems or theories, so as to actively carry on studies and explorations.
Li Chunguang, Deputy Director of the Cooperation Division of Shanghai Academy, gave a speech on behalf of postgraduate tutors. He hoped the students would actively track international and domestic dynamics of disciplinary studies, and conduct earnest, down-to-earth and dedicated studies, so as to fully reflect their value. He pointed out that the postgraduate study is a painstaking process of continuously climbing the scientific peak, capturing the scientific crown and tackling hard-nut problems; only those with great perseverance can achieve their dreams and rise to a high position.
Class 2017 postgraduate candidate Sun Chang and Class 2016 doctoral candidate Yin Dandan each delivered speeches on behalf of the students. Sun Chang expressed a good expectation for the life of postgraduates, and expounded the learning attitude and basic requirements as a new student. Yin Dandan shared her experience in seeking the doctorate degree at Shanghai Academy and encouraged other students to courageously take the first step; as long as they never give up, they would achieve unexpected harvests.
This activity is an important practice of Shanghai Academy for building the “high-end talent training base”, which is part of the objective of creating “four high-ends”. Yang Huijun, Director of the Secretariat of Shanghai Academy, Xiong Hou, Director of the Research Division of Shanghai Academy, Chen Yao, Director of the Administrative Division of Shanghai Academy, Zhu Chen, Director of the Cooperation Division of Shanghai Academy, and Zhang Jun, Deputy Director of the Secretariat of Shanghai Academy, attended the activity.
