On the afternoon of May 18, Pavel Kabt, Executive Chairman of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) and his party paid a visit to Shanghai Academy. Li Youmei, First Vice President of Shanghai Academy, and Wen Xueguo, Executive Vice President received the visitors, and both sides conducted in-depth exchanges on cooperation matters.

Mr. Kabt and his party first watched an introductory video of Shanghai Academy and learned the background of the Academy’s establishment, development orientation, and objectives. In her introduction, Li Youmei informed the guests that, as a new type of think tank jointly founded by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the Shanghai Municipal Government, Shanghai Academy focuses on hotspots in Shanghai’s economic and social development, such as “Belt and Road” construction, its free trade zone and Scientific and Technological Innovation Center, and social governance, providing intellectual support for the construction of Shanghai as an excellent global metropolis. She said that Shanghai Academy looks forward to working with IIASA in visits & exchanges, in holding international conferences, and other aspects.

Mr. Kabt briefed on the main research areas and developments of IIASA. He pointed out that China has made remarkable achievements in recent years, and that IIASA has close cooperation with China in many areas. Shanghai is one of the most influential cities in China, and Shanghai Academy, as one of the important think tanks of the Shanghai municipal government, plays an important role. He said that IIASA hopes to cooperate with Shanghai Academy in regional economy, policy research and in international conferences and mutual visits, to promote economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Chin-Min Lee, special advisor of IIASA, Liu Yuzhao, Vice President of Shanghai University’s School of Sociology and Political Science, Jiang Leiwen, Director of Asian Demographic Research Institute of Shanghai University, and Zhu Cheng, Director of the Cooperation Division of Shanghai Academy attended the exchange activities.
