On August 2-6, 2019, at the invitation of the Nepal Sociology Association, Li Youmei, President of the China Sociological Association, and First Vice President of Shanghai Academy, led a delegation to visit Nepal to attend the 2019 International Conference of Nepal Sociology Association, themed on "Nepalese Sociology: National Reconstruction, Governance and Participation".
Li Youmei addressed the opening ceremony on behalf of the China Sociological Association and delivered a speech titled "Seek Cooperation in a “Differentiated” World - Sociological Understanding about Building a Community of Shared Future for Mankind”.
The conference was attended by nearly 20 international scholars from China, India, the U.K., Japan and other countries, as well as more than 100 Nepalese social scholars. It had a total of 19 topics, including "Nepalese Sociology at A Crossroad", "Prospects for Democracy and Prosperity", "Health Systems from A Sociological Perspective", "Changes in Grass-Roots Social Structure from A Sociological Perspective", and "Nepal and China: Development Experience and Mutual Learning".
On August 5, accompanied by Professor Ganesh Man Gurung, President of the Nepal Sociology Association, Ms. Bidhya Devi Bhandari, President of Nepal, cordially met with the Chinese delegation and some international scholars attending the conference, at the presidential palace.
During the visit, President Li Youmei also led the delegation to visit the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, and had in-depth communications and exchanges with Ambassador Hou Yanqi on further strengthening academic exchanges between China and Nepal, and on Shanghai’s service for the "Belt and Road".
