    EDUCATION

    From 1994 to 2000, he studied for a master and doctor’s degree in economics at the School of Economics, Nankai University. In July 2000, he worked in the National Academy of Economic Strategy at CASS.

    POSITION

    He works as Director of the Center for City and Competitiveness, CASS, Assistant to the President of the National Academy of Economic Strategy, CASS, Director of the Urban and Real Estate Economic Research Office, research fellow and PhD candidate supervisor. 

    WORK EXPERIENCE

    As an author, he has edited Annual Report on China’s Urban Competitiveness, Annual Report on Development of Housing Market in China, and Report on National Competitiveness of China. As a co-author, he has jointly edited Global Urban Competitiveness Report (with US scholar, Professor Peter Karl Kresl), and Measurement and Interpretation of Connectivity of Chinese Cities in World City Network (Fellowship of Royal Society, Peter J. Taylor). As a major writer, he has edited Annual Report on World Cities (2012) supported by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme. He also serves as an evaluation expert of the SEM Reform and Development Project (2000) supported by the United Nations Development Programme, and was the Chinese person in charge of Doing Business 2008 China supported by World Bank Group Corporate and CASS. He also works as a part-time professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Beijing Normal University, Southeast University, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, and Seoul National University of Science and Technology, Secretary General of the Global Urban Competitiveness Transnational Project, Head of China’s Urban Competitiveness Research Group, Deputy Director of the Research Office for Youth, Humanities and Social Sciences, CASS, Deputy Secretary General of the China Society for Urban Studies, China Society for Urban Development and China Society of Urban Economy, and economic advisor of Chengdu, Taiyuan and Dongguan governments.

    He is devoted to theoretical and empirical research on urban economics, real estate economics, space finance, urban competitiveness and national competitiveness. He has undertaken projects supported by the central government, national major bidding projects of the National Social Science Foundation of China, and projects authorized by international organizations, national ministries, and local governments, including the United Nations, World Bank, European Union, Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Commerce, Beijing Municipal Government, Guangzhou Municipal Government, and Chengdu Municipal Government. So far, he has published 12 times the Annual Report on China’s Urban Competitiveness (annual report), 4 times the Global Urban Competitiveness Report (biennial report), 5 times the Annual Report on Development of Housing Market in China (annual report), and one iteration of the biennial Report on National Competitiveness of China. As an expert in economics and strategy, he has made research on case, strategy and countermeasures for nearly 20 provinces and cities in China, and published 12 treatises on cases. He has published dozens of papers in domestic and foreign authoritative magazines including the US-based Journal of International Affairs, UK-based Urban Study, Social Sciences in China and the Economic Research Journal. His representative work Annual Report on China’ s Urban Competitiveness won the highest award of economics study in China——“Sun Yefang Economic Science Award (11th)”. His research findings have great reference value for policymaking in national and urban development, and important academic influence in China and the world.
