EDUCATION
In 1982, he graduated from the Department of Philosophy at Shandong University, and then studied abroad in 1983. He got his master’s degree from the University of Lyon (France) in 1984, and a PhD degree in sociology from the University of Paris 1 (Sorbonne) in 1987.
POSITION
Li is an alternate member of the 18th CPC Central Committee, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), member of the leading Party group of CASS, member of CASS Academic Divisions, member of the Presidium of the CASS Academic Divisions, Director of the Institute of Sociology at CASS, chief manager of the “Philosophy and Social Sciences Innovation Project” of CASS in the Institute of Sociology, research fellow and PhD candidate supervisor.
AWARDS & HONORS
In 1992, Li was awarded the title of “Young Expert of Outstanding Achievements” by the government, and was conferred a special allowance by the government from 1993. In 1996, he was selected as the nation-level representative for the “Millions of Talent in the New Century Project.” After that, he won the “National Outstanding Returned Overseas Chinese Talent” award in 2003 and was elected to be a representative of the “Four Groups Talents” in the national system of publicity and culture in 2005.

His part-time positions include: Vice Chairman (legal representative) of the Chinese Sociological Association, member of the Governmental Expert Committee of the 12th Five-Year Plan, member of the Degree Committee of the State Council, member of the Review Committee of the National Social Science Fund, chief expert of the Expert Group of Sociology under the “Marxist Theory Project”, PhD candidate tutor of EHESS (école des hautes études en sciences socials), member of the Academic Degrees Committee and the Evaluation Committee of Professional Titles at CASS, chief editor ofSociological Studies, director of the Academic Committee of Sociology at CASS, member of the Editorial Committee of theSocial Sciences in China, chief editor of the Editorial Committee ofCollection of Translations of Sociology of Classical Teaching Materials, member of the Academic Committee of the Research Base of Sociology at Peking University, and part-time professor of Nankai University, Beijing Normal University, Shanghai University, Wuhan University, Shandong University and the Central University of Finance and Economics.
