currently is a member of the Standing Committee and a member of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee of the 12th National People’s Congress, Vice President of CASS, member of the Party group of CASS, member of Academic Divisions of CASS, member of Presidium of CASS, member of the advisory board of the 13th Five-Year Plan on National Economic and Social Development of China, and chief editor of the magazineStudies in Labor Economics.

WORK EXPERIENCE

His main research fields include economic reform in China, economic growth, employment and labor migration, and income distribution and poverty. He has published many books, such as Demystifying the Economic Growth in Transition China,Beyond Demographic Dividend, and FromDemographic Dividend to Reform Dividend, and a series of monographs namedAnnual Reports on China’s Population and Labor. He has also, on three successive occasions, made explanations to issues concerning China’s employment and the “12th Five-year Plan” during the collective learning of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

AWARDS & HONORS

He was awarded the State-level title of “Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions” in 1998, the Outstanding Achievement Award for Personnel Studying Abroad by seven ministries and commissions under the State Council in 2003, one of the “100 Most Influential Economists of the 60 Years’ Economic Construction in New China” in 2009, the Zhang Peigang Award for Outstanding Achievement in Development Economics, the China Soft Science Award, the Award for Chinese Rural Development Studies, the Chinese Population Award, the Sun Yefang Economic Science Award, and the National Book Award.
