On the afternoon of July 6, Tan Fangzheng, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education (MOE), led a central media interview group to Shanghai Academy, and held a workshop themed “how shall philosophy and social science in colleges and universities serve country governance”? The visit also sought to promote the earnest study and implementation of the essence of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speeches, and the new concepts, ideas, and strategy of governance of the country, to publicize the new practice, progress and achievements in the reform and development of education since the 18th CPC National Congress, and to fully reflect the spiritual outlook of Shanghai’s education system to greet the 19th CPC National Congress.

The event was jointly organized by the Department of Social Sciences and Information Office of the MOE, and was an important part of “Greeting the 19th CPC National Congress, Changes in Education---Shanghai”. It was mainly designed to report the role of colleges and universities as think tanks in serving economic, political, cultural, social, and ecological civilization construction, and the arranging of special classes for Xinjiang and Tibet students in the hinterland.

Wen Xueguo, Executive Vice President of Shanghai Academy presided over the meeting. Director, Chen Xing, Deputy Director, Peng Huihui and cadre member Zeng Yi of the Information Section of the General Office of the MOE, and associate investigator Duan Hongbo of the Planning Section of the Department of Social Sciences of the MOE also attended the meeting. A total of more than 20 reporters from People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, Guangming Daily, China National Radio, Economic Daily, China Youth Daily, People's Political Consultative Daily, China Education Daily, China Education Television, China Higher Education magazine, people.cn, Xinhuanet, cnr.cn, China.org.cn, WeChat official account “jybxwb”, moe.gov.cn and other news media attended the meeting.

Duan Yong, Vice President of Shanghai University, Li Youmei, First Vice President of Shanghai Academy, Cao Rongrui, Director of the Publicity Section of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, members from the team headed by Jin Donghan, President of Shanghai University, and Yu Xiaoyu, Professor of the School of Management of Shanghai University, delivered speeches respectively at the meeting. Duan Yong highlighted the special fields, think tank institutions, tasks, mechanisms and systems, important activities and important research results of Shanghai University in his speech. Li Youmei briefed on the constitution of the scientific research team, the source of research topics, and institutional and system innovation since the establishment of Shanghai Academy. Cao Rongrui’s speech centered on strengthening the Party’s control of think tanks and building the operating and management system for think tank construction. Yu Xiaoyu shared the progress of important projects undertaken by the team headed by academician Jin Donghan. According to their respective areas of concern and topics of interest, the media interviewed relevant attendees.
