    Wen Xueguo and His Party Attend 2017 World Telecommunication Union Summit

    During May 11-17, Wen Xueguo, Executive Vice President of Shanghai Academy, led a delegation to pay a goodwill visit to relevant think-tanks in Germany and France, and was invited to attend the “2017 World Telecommunication Union Summit”.

    At the Summit, Wen Xueguo gave a keynote speech entitled “Overview of Smart City Construction in Shanghai” at the “smart city” sub-forum. He mainly introduced the general situation of Shanghai’s urban construction in three aspects, namely; current development, latest practice, and experience outlook, and focused on a detailed analysis on Lujiazui smart community and Shanghai’s fast claims settlement system for road traffic accidents on the basis of the Evaluation Report about Smart City Construction in Shanghai 2016. He pointed out that Shanghai’s smart city construction will focus more on the smart livelihood construction in the future, and strive, initially, to build up a new smart city by 2020, characterized by ubiquity, integration, and intelligence. His speech was vivid and appealing, and fully combined with theories and cases, attracting the delegates to engage in extensive and lively discussions about relevant issues.

    During the tour, Wen Xueguo and his party also visited Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, the German Council on Foreign Relations, The Bridge Tank. At Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, they met Rabea Brauer, Director of Asia-Pacific Team of European and International Cooperation Division, Paul Linnarz, Director of Political Dialogue and Analysis Team, and Tim Wenniges from the Shanghai Representative Office; Both sides focused on exchanges and discussions about such issues as think-tank operation mode, personnel composition, governance structure, funding sources, production mode and establishment of a cooperation and exchange mechanism. At the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, the German Council on Foreign Relations and the Bridge Tank, both sides mainly made in-depth discussions about strategic cooperation on smart cities and how to work together to build the “Belt and Road”, green environmental protection, and other issues.

    Xiong Hou, Director of Shanghai Academy’s Research Division, and Zhang Jun, Deputy Director of Secretariat, accompanied Wen in the visit.
